SASSA Increased Grants 1 October 2024

To accommodate the exceeding number of beneficiaries this year, SASSA increased grants 1 October 2024. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed during the National Treasury Budget 2024 event that SASSA payments have been raised, benefiting all recipients of social grant programs, including children, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

SASSA Increased Grants 1 October 2024

SASSA Grants Increased 1 October 2024 has announced increased grant payments for 2024 to keep up with inflation. In July 2024, increased payments will be paid to social grant recipients, including the Social Relief of Distress (SRD), also known as the SASSA R370 grant, which has been extended to 2025 for continuous support.

In Cape Town, the expanded Budget 2024 review from the National Treasury explained that social grant expenditure will increase from R217.1 billion in 2024 to R259.3 billion in 2026 and 2027. During the Budget Speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana stated.

• “We have plans to increase SASSA payments to meet the cost of living for over 27 million South Africans who rely on social grants. In this purpose, we have done as much as the fiscal envelope allows,” the Finance Minister said.
• President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa also kept his promise from his recent SONA speech, that “SASSA R350 increased in 2024 with a permanent increment of R370 payments”

The South African government made SASSA increase the grant payment amount by R90 for the old age, war veterans, disability, and care dependency grants. This amount is effective from October 2024 and will increase by an additional R10 in increments. Other grants have also been adjusted; the foster care grant for foster children increased by R50, and the child support grant increased by R20.

Update: After October 2024, SASSA confirmed grant payments increased from April 2025, following approval of Parliament’s National Budget.
