With the start of 2026, SASSA is prepared to distribute social grants for vulnerable South Africans. The first payment will be paid on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, for Old Age Grant beneficiaries.
Learned from challenges experienced in the previous year, the agency has plans to improve its social grant systems. Beneficiaries can expect to see an increase in the Old Age Grant in the coming months of 2026.
Although the New Year holidays have slowed down banking systems, SASSA has reassured Old Age Grant recipients that payments will be released on the scheduled dates.

SASSA Old Age Grant Payment Dates for January 2026
For January 2026, the SASSA Old Age Grant will be paid together with any linked grants, such as the Grant in Aid for caregivers, on the same date.

The SASSA status check allows you to verify your Old Age grant approval before the payment dates. Once your grant is approved, you will be paid for January 2026.
