  • Important Notice: SASSA has announced that all Social Grants will be increased starting from 1 April 2023. This includes the Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, Grant In Aid, Care Dependency Grant, War Veterans Grant, and Older Persons Grant will be increased to R2080 (for recipients between 60 and 74) and R2100 (for recipients over 75 years old).

How much is SASSA old age grant?

If your grant application is approved, you will receive payment starting from the date of your application. The maximum monthly amount for the SASSA Old Age Grant is R2080. If you are aged 75 or older, you will receive R2100.

What are the payment methods for SASSA old age grants?

SASSA provides the grant through the following payment methods:

  1. Cash at a designated pay point on a specified day.
  2. Electronic deposit into your bank or Postbank account (please note that the bank may charge for this service).
  3. Institutions such as old age homes.
  • Note: If you are unable to collect the money yourself, you can appoint a procurator at the SASSA office or grant someone power of attorney to collect the grant on your behalf.

When will SASSA older person grant be reviewed and suspended?

SASSA may decide to review your grant based on the income you declared during your application. You will be notified three months in advance of the review or the due date for submitting a life certificate (proof of being alive).   4. You are absent from the country.
  • Please note: If you are admitted to an institution with a state contract for your care, the social grant is reduced to 25% of the maximum grant amount. This reduction begins in the fourth month following your admission and will be reinstated immediately upon your discharge.
