Check SASSA Old Age Grant April 2026 Payment Status

To check your Older Person Grant status online on the SASSA Services portal, follow these steps.

  1. Visit the SASSA services portal. https://services.sassa.gov.za/portal/r/sassa/sassa/home
  2. Log in using your username and password.
  3. Find the ‘Active Applications’ table on the home page.
  4. Click the ‘SASSA Status Check’ button next to your Old Age Grant application.
  5. The system will display your current Old Age Grant status for April 2026.

Once you confirm that your Old Age Grant is approved, check the April 2026 SASSA payment schedule to collect your funds. You will find the SASSA War Veterans Grant paid on the same day as the Older Persons Grant.

SASSA Old Age Grant Payment Not Received for April 2026

SASSA follows a strict schedule for monthly Old Age Grant payments and releases funds on a specific date. Most payment delays are caused by bank processing, as some commercial banks take 24 to 48 hours to reflect SASSA payments in your available balance. To confirm your payment release, contact SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11, and also call your bank to verify the current month’s grant deposit.

SASSA Old Age Grant

South African senior citizens facing financial difficulties receive support through the SASSA Older Persons Grant. This grant helps cover daily living expenses and healthcare costs. It is available to eligible elderly individuals, including those with caregivers and those residing in Old Age Homes. SASSA pays the Old Age Grant monthly, providing a vital lifeline for seniors in need and helping them maintain a basic standard of living with dignity in their later years.

Documents Required

  • Your valid, 13-digit barcoded South African ID.
  • Proof of your address.
  • Your most recent bank statements (3 months).
  • Proof of your income and assets (if any).
  • Proof of any private pension or dividends (if any).
  • Proof of your marital status (if married).
  • Proof of your assets, including the value of the property you own.
  • Your Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) discharge certificate (if previously employed).
  • Your spouse’s death certificate, will, or final liquidation (if widowed in the last 5 years).

Note: If you do not have an ID document, you will need to complete a sworn statement from a reputable person or an affidavit from a Commissioner of Oaths.

Apply for SASSA Old Age Grant Online

You can apply for the Old Age Grant online by completing your application on the SASSA Services portal. This process requires you to register your account before submitting your application. This process can also be done in person at your local SASSA office.

Register your Account on the SASSA Services Portal

  1. Visit the SASSA Services portal: https://services.sassa.gov.za/
  2. Click the “Register” button to create your account.
  3. Enter your personal details, including ID, name, address, and email.
  4. Provide your active cellphone number. SASSA OTP will be sent to verify it.
  5. Create a password to complete your SASSA account registration.

Old Age Grant Online Application Form

  1. Log in to your SASSA Services Portal using your username and password.
  2. Select the Grant for Older Persons from the listed Social Grants.
  3. You need to fill out your Old Age Grant Application form with the required details.
  4. Enter your South African ID and the personal details such as name, address, and age.
  5. Complete the questionnaire for your citizenship, residence, income, and marital status.
  6. As requested, you have to upload the required documents for the Old Age Grant.

    • Proof of your marital status
    • Spouse’s ID document (if applicable)
    • Proof of income or an unemployment discharge certificate
    • If you don’t have an ID, provide a certified affidavit from a Commissioner of Oaths
  7. To receive your grant, provide your banking details or choose a SASSA Card.
  8. Read and accept the declaration and consent for the provided information.
  9. Submit your completed Old Age Grant Application to the SASSA portal.
  10. You will receive a receipt with the Application ID for successful application submission.

Processing Time for Old Age Grant Application

SASSA typically processes your Older Persons Grant application within three months. Your personal details are verified against government databases before approval. Once your identity is verified and your eligibility confirmed, SASSA will approve your grant and begin your monthly pension.

Note: Old Age Grant processing time is the same as SASSA Child Support Grant.

When Will SASSA Start Paying Your Old Age Grant

You will start receiving SASSA payments for your approved Old Age Grant from the month your application is approved. If there is a processing delay, your payments will be backdated to your original application date. You will receive an SMS on your registered cell phone number to confirm your grant approval and the date of your first payment.

What if your Old Age Grant Application is not Approved

If your Old Age Grant Application is not approved, SASSA will provide an SMS notification explaining the reason for the rejection outcome. If you disagree with the decision, you can appeal to the Minister of Social Development at the National Department of Social Development. Remember, your appeal must be submitted within 90 days of being notified that your application was unsuccessful.

Payment Methods for SASSA Old Grant

SASSA pays your Old Age Grant through the following SASSA payment methods.

  • Cash at authorized retail stores and pay points on scheduled payment dates.
  • Electronic deposit into your personal bank account.
  • Payment transactions into your SASSA card (Postbank card).
  • Institutions such as old age homes and health care centers.

Note: If you are unable to collect the money yourself, you can appoint a procurator at the SASSA office or grant someone power of attorney to collect the grant on your behalf.

Amount of SASSA Old Age Grant Paid to Eligible People

The amount of the SASSA Old Age Grant is based on the beneficiary’s age. As of April 2026, the monthly payment for individuals aged 60 to 74 is R2,320. For those aged 75 and over, the grant amount is R2,340. If you need a full-time caregiver, you can also qualify for an additional Grant-in-Aid.

How to Update Your Old Age Grant Application

To update your application for the Old Age Grant, you need to visit the nearest SASSA office in person. Unlike the SRD Grant, which can be updated online, the Older Person Grant is a Social Grant and requires verification for any changes to your information. You can change your phone number, your banking details, your address, marital status, disability status, or admission to a state institution, such as an Old Age Home or a frail care facility.

I was supposed to get my first payment in August 2023, but have not received anything. I opted to have the money paid into my bank account.     I went to draw out my SASSA old age grant on Tuesday 05 September 2023 and there was 2140 in the account, but due to the hiccup with the systems I could not draw the funds. I tried again today and it said that there are insufficient funds. When checking the balance statement, there was only R22.40 in the account. Please can you assist.
