SASSA Reinstate
If you canceled your SASSA SRD grant application by mistake or your financial situation has changed, you can request to reinstate your grant through the SASSA online portal. As part of this process, you will need to update your existing application to reassess your eligibility, which will enable SASSA Reinstate to approve your monthly payments.
SASSA Reinstate
You will need your South African ID number and the cellphone number registered with your canceled SASSA SRD R370 grant. Follow the steps below to complete the process.
- To reinstate your SRD grant, visit the SASSA portal. https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate
- Scroll to the section labelled “Reinstate My Canceled Application” option.
- Enter your 13-digit South African ID and the registered phone number linked to your application or grant reapplication.
- Click on ‘send PIN’ and you will receive an SMS with SASSA OTP for verification.
- Choose a valid reason for your grant reinstatement from the given options.
- Acceptable reasons: Canceled in error, No longer have income, disability, or other.
- You will receive a SASSA confirmation message: Are you sure you want to reinstate the grant?
- To confirm, click ‘Yes’ and send your request to reinstate your SASSA grant.
After you submit your reinstatement request, SASSA will review your application, and your SRD R350 grant should become active again, provided you still meet all eligibility requirements.
How Long Does SASSA Reinstatement Take
SASSA takes 30 to 90 working days to process and reinstate a canceled grant. During this time, your personal information is verified, and a means test is applied to confirm eligibility based on your current income and assets. Once your SASSA application has been reviewed and approved, your SASSA status will reflect as ‘Approved,’ and grant payments will continue from that month onward.
Check SASSA Application Status
After you have requested to reinstate your grant, check your SASSA status by visiting the SASSA website at srd.sassa.gov.za. You will need to enter your South African ID number and registered cellphone number to view the outcome.
If your application status shows approved, it means your grant has been reinstated. Payments will resume from the current month, and you will continue to receive monthly financial support from SASSA.
Note: To understand the reason for your pending status, you can check ‘why SASSA status is pending‘ and see what steps you can take to fix it.
How to reinstate your canceled social grant from the SASSA office?
If SASSA has suspended your social grant, such as the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, or Child Support Grant, you must visit a local SASSA office and request reinstatement.
You will need to provide the up-to-date information for required documentation, which may include your original South African ID, a medical report for a Disability Grant, or a birth certificate for a Child Support Grant.
At the SASSA office, a representative will assist you in completing the reinstatement process and submitting your request. You will then need to wait for the grant application to be reviewed and approved before you can start receiving your monthly support again.
Can I Appeal to Reinstate a Declined SASSA Grant?
A declined grant requires a SASSA appeal to have your application reconsidered. You can appeal through the online portal or at a SASSA office. You must submit your appeal within 90 days of receiving the notice. After submitting, the ITSAA Tribunal at DSD will review your case and notify you of its decision, which usually takes 30 to 60 days.
