SRD Grant Extended to March 2026 Officially Confirmed

SRD Grant Extended to March 2026 – Officially Confirmed

The South African government has officially announced the R370 SRD Grant Extended to March 2026, providing much-needed relief to unemployed individuals and low-income citizens. This decision ensures continued assistance for over 9 million registered beneficiaries (2025 SASSA database) who depend on these monthly payments for essential needs, including food, transportation, and utilities.

SRD Grant Extended to March 2026

Last year, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant extended from March 2024 to March 2025 in the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), has proven an important support for vulnerable South Africans without an income source.

Recently, during the 2025 Budget Speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed the SRD grant’s extension until March 2026, backed by a R35.2 billion allocation from the National Treasury.

This decision follows the government’s 2025 budget allocation of R35.2 billion for the SRD grant, reaffirming its commitment to social support amid high unemployment and a slow economic recovery.

The SRD amount remains at R370 per month, as SASSA increased from R350, which took effect on April 1, 2024. Looking ahead, further reforms are expected in 2026.

SASSA beneficiaries have welcomed this decision, as the Social Relief of Distress grant continues to provide essential financial support during ongoing economic challenges in South Africa.

Update for SASSA SRD Grant

South Africa’s National Treasury is currently assessing long-term labour and social support programmes, which could lead to a more permanent version of the SRD grant. A final decision is expected by September 2025, a key moment that could shape the future of income support for millions of South Africans.

Meanwhile, SASSA has confirmed social grant payment increases for 2025 and 2026.

Check SRD Status for Monthly Payments Verification

To continue receiving your monthly SRD payments, all beneficiaries must confirm their status for applications and ensure their SASSA bank details are up to date. For approved grant status, most delays are caused by failed identity verification or mismatched banking information. Updating these details early can help you avoid payment issues.

Note: SASSA reminds applicants to stay alert for scams. The SRD grant is always free to apply for, and no one should ever charge you to access it.
