SRD Grant Identity Verification Required for May 2025 Payments
SASSA’s official announcement confirms that the SRD grant identity verification required for May 2025 payments. This urgent update affects thousands of South Africans whose applications are currently pending for “Identity Verification” in the SASSA system. To receive your R370 grant for May, affected beneficiaries must complete a biometric verification process at their nearest SASSA office.
SRD Grant Identity Verification Required for May 2025 Payments
Starting 5 May 2025, SASSA has implemented a new identity verification system for all grant beneficiaries, including those receiving the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant and other social grants. The agency announced in early May that grant payments would be delayed due to the ongoing verification process. In particular, SRD R350 grant beneficiaries are now facing additional payment challenges this month.
A major concern for SRD recipients is the suspension of Postbank black cards in May, following a directive issued by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to Postbank. This measure, supported by SASSA, is intended to ensure that all grant beneficiaries, including those who have not switched to the new black cards, can continue receiving their SRD payments using their existing SASSA Gold cards and avoid depending on the unreliable Postbank system.
Now, SRD grant identity verification is compulsory for May 2025 payments. Every beneficiary must confirm their SASSA status check for May 2025 online to confirm their grant approval. If the SRD grant status shows “Identity Verification Pending,” it means the Department of Home Affairs could not match your ID details. In such a case, an in-person biometric verification is required at a SASSA office. Once verified, approved beneficiaries can expect to receive their May 2025 payments on the scheduled pay dates.
Why Is Identity Verification Required for May 2025 SRD Payments
SASSA has made identity verification mandatory for SRD R370 grant payments in May 2025 to protect the system from fraud and ensure that only eligible applicants receive support. This step helps prevent duplicate R370 applications, impersonation of deceased person accounts, and correct mismatched details during the SRD application process or due to recent changes in personal information.
If your ID, name, cell number, or changed banking details don’t match the Department of Home Affairs records, your SRD status will show “Identity verification pending.” To resolve this and continue receiving your R370 grant, you must visit your nearest SASSA office or biometric center.
Beneficiaries are advised to bring their original South African ID book or Smart ID card. Remember, SASSA does not accept copies or temporary IDs. If any changes occurred, you may also need to confirm the updated phone number or address used in your application. Once verified, your SRD status will be approved for May 2025, and payments will be made on the scheduled SASSA pay dates.
