Update SASSA Banking Details Before October 2025 Grant Payments

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that beneficiaries may now receive their grants through any bank of their choice, following the end of the SASSA–Postbank MSA contract on 30 September 2025. Beneficiaries who need to change or link a new account are strongly advised to update SASSA banking details before October 2025 grant payments to ensure smooth processing, prevent delays, and avoid missed payments.

Update SASSA Banking Details Before October 2025 Grant Payments

SASSA has made it clear that beneficiaries have the legal right to decide whether to continue using Postbank or switch to any other bank, as the agency cannot enforce their choice. This ensures that all grant payments are made directly into the personal bank account selected by each beneficiary. For those who choose to remain with Postbank, SASSA has confirmed that no grant payments will be affected by the termination of the SASSA–Postbank Master Service Agreement (MSA) on 30 September 2025.

In its official media statement, SASSA reaffirmed: “Social grant beneficiaries have a right to choose for their social grant to be paid to any bank of their choice.”

Concerned beneficiaries have long been frustrated with Postbank, and their struggles are well known. Over the past year, SASSA received thousands of complaints related to Postbank system glitches and payment delays. For people in remote areas, the difficulty of updating or replacing Gold cards has only added to the stress, leaving many uncertain about when or how they would receive their money, if not transitioned to the new Postbank Black card.

To prevent more setbacks, SASSA is urging beneficiaries to update their banking details and link to an active personal account. Payments will not be processed into accounts belonging to someone else, nor into inactive or incorrect accounts, which often lead to missed or reversed payments. SASSA is encouraging everyone to choose the registered bank in South Africa they trust most to ensure their grants are paid smoothly from October 2025 onwards.

Update: SASSA conducts income checks through a monthly means test. This verification uses various South African government databases and financial institutions, including banks, to confirm employment status and identify sources of income. Beneficiaries must ensure their income remains within the approved means test threshold to continue receiving grant payments.

Note: Confirm that your bank account is active and registered in your own name. SASSA will not pay grant money into another person’s account.

Check Payment Dates When SASSA Grant Reflects in Your Bank Account

SASSA has reminded beneficiaries to check their grant status on the official SASSA website to confirm the exact payment date when funds will reflect in their bank accounts.

Checking your SASSA status for October 2025 is easy on sassacheck.com. You simply need to enter your ID number and registered phone number, as required by the official SASSA system. Once your status shows as approved for October, the grant payment will be processed for that month.

According to the official SASSA payment schedule for October 2025, you can expect to receive your social grants or the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant on the following dates:

SASSA’s official schedule allocates specific payment dates for each grant type, ensuring that all grants are paid on time. Beneficiaries are advised to check their grant dates carefully to avoid confusion and to collect their grants on the correct pay day for the month.

Important Notices for SASSA Bank Payments

Beneficiaries who do not update their banking details before the scheduled payment dates will only receive their money in the following month.

Late updates will not be paid into the new bank account immediately, as SASSA must verify and link the account before processing the grant in the next payment cycle.

SASSA has emphasised that the grant system does not hold payments indefinitely. Incorrect banking details simply delay access to critical support for the most vulnerable South Africans.

For assistance with updating details or any queries, beneficiaries can contact SASSA toll-free helpline at 0800 60 10 11.
