Head Office of the Unemployment Insurance Fund in the Republic of South Africa, No SASSA Grant Payment for UIF Beneficiaries in June 2025

No SASSA Grant Payment for UIF Beneficiaries in June 2025

Thousands of South Africans are concerned about no SASSA grant payment for UIF beneficiaries in June 2025, even after their UIF payments have stopped. Many were flagged as ineligible in the SASSA system during May, leaving them confused and frustrated, especially those who believed they now qualified for SASSA support.

No SASSA Grant Payment for UIF Beneficiaries in June 2025

In May 2025, thousands of SASSA beneficiaries reported missing their grant payments after being flagged as UIF-registered. This issue has continued into the June 2025 SASSA status checks, causing widespread concern, especially among individuals unaware that their previous UIF registration could affect their SASSA grant eligibility.

All SASSA grants are means-tested, which means an applicant’s income and financial circumstances are assessed to determine whether they qualify. If you are currently receiving UIF or have recently received a UIF payout, that income is counted in your financial profile. As a result, your SASSA SRD application for June 2025 could be declined if your total income exceeds the grant’s threshold.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) are two separate government support programmes. UIF provides short-term financial assistance to workers who are unemployed, on maternity or adoption leave, or unable to work due to illness. SASSA, on the other hand, offers support to South Africans with little or no income to obtain the SRD grant, including individuals in need of Child Support, Disability assistance, or Old Age pensions.

How to Maintain Your SASSA Grant Eligibility in June 2025

SASSA has officially stated that applicants must not be registered with other government support programmes such as UIF, NSFAS, or SARS if they wish to qualify for or continue receiving a SASSA grant.

To remain eligible for your SASSA grant, beneficiaries are advised to monitor their bank account balance closely. Even past UIF payouts left in your account can count as income, potentially pushing you over the income threshold in the means test and affecting your eligibility for June 2025 payments.
