SRD SASSA Change Phone Number
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) communicates with grant recipients using the cellphone number provided during the application process. If you’ve lost the registered SRD phone number or if SASSA detects potential fraud linked to your current mobile number used for your SRD R370 or other social grant, you will not be able to receive SMS confirmations, one-time PINs (OTPs), payment withdrawals, submit appeals, or update your application information.
To change the cell phone number linked to your SASSA grant application at srd.sassa.gov.za, you must have a valid ID document and application ID. SASSA change phone number after reviewing your application details and verifying your identity. Once verified, your new contact details will be updated in place of the old number. This allows you to continue receiving grant payments with the new contact information. To complete this process, you will need:
- Your Application ID (AppID), also known as the SASSA reference number issued when you first applied.
- Require your new SIM card number to replace the old number linked to your SRD or social grant.
- Your 13-digit South African ID (valid green ID book, smart card, or refugee/asylum seeker permit).
SASSA Change Phone Number
Before starting the SRD change cellphone number process, make sure you have your Application ID ready. If you’ve lost it, you can retrieve it by visiting https://sassacheck.com and checking your SASSA status. Enter your 13-digit South African ID number and the old cell phone number linked to your grant. Your grant status will appear with your Application ID on the first line of the results. This is required to proceed with changing your SRD phone number for your SASSA grant.
- To change your phone number for SASSA SRD grant, visit official portal. https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact/
- Click on the link, SASSA SRD change cellphone number online.
- Type your 13-digit South African identity number or a valid ID in the “ID Number” box.
- Provide the 6-digit Application ID (AppID) that SASSA issued to your grant application or reapplication.
- Click “Submit” to verify your identity as the original applicant of the SASSA grant.
- Once verified, click on the ‘change phone number’ service to add your new contact information.
- Enter your new cellphone number to replace the old contact linked to your SASSA grant.
- Input the SASSA OTP received on your new phone number and click the “Verify PIN” button.
- Confirm your request to change phone number for the SASSA grant application.
- Click “Submit” and wait for your updated contact details to be processed by the SASSA system.
Important Note: You can only submit one request to update your contact details in 24 hours.
How Long SASSA Takes to Update Your New Phone Number
SASSA takes up to 14 business days to change your phone number. Your identity will be verified to confirm that you are the original applicant requesting to update the cellphone number linked to your SASSA R370 grant application or social grant. Once your new phone number is successfully registered in place of the old one, you’ll receive a confirmation SMS. All future payment notifications, OTPs, and grant updates will be sent to your new contact details.
How to Change SRD Phone Number Without Application ID
If you don’t have an Application ID for your Social Relief of Distress (SRD) or social grant application, call 0800 60 10 11. Ask the SASSA consultant to help you update your number after verifying your ID. You can also go to your nearest SASSA office for SRD change number and must bring your original identity document. SASSA staff members will check your information and update your contact details for the SASSA payment.
Important: If you selected the grant money transfer option through your bank account after changing your banking details, ensure that the mobile number receiving your SASSA SMS is registered in your name. SASSA cannot process payments to a phone number that is registered under someone else’s identity.
Report Unauthorised SASSA Phone Number Change
If your SASSA-registered phone number was changed without your consent, whether due to fraud, SIM swap, or mobile phone theft (SRD lost phone number), you must report it immediately. First, check your SRD status at sassacheck.com. If it shows “record not found”, call the SASSA toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 to stop your grant payments. Also, report the incident at your nearest police station and request an official case number.
Next, visit https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/auth to report the unauthorised phone number change. You’ll need to submit your South African ID and confirm that your cellphone number linked to your SASSA R350 application (now R370 grant) or any other social grant was changed without your permission. Once your case is logged, you’ll receive confirmation from SASSA. This helps protect your grant and restore secure access to your account.
