SASSA Social Relief of Distress SRD R350 Grant and other social grants cannot function without your phone number and your South African ID. If you want to continue receiving the grant every month, it’s essential to keep your personal information up to date and there is no room for errors.
The process of SASSA Change Phone Number is simple and only takes 1 minute. Make sure you have the Identity card number that you used to apply for the SASSA SRD grant to change your number.
There are 2 main reasons For a Number Change
- Incorrect Contact Information in the SASSA grant Application.
- Sim Card lost, or Cell Phone Stolen.
Process of SASSA Change Phone Number
To change your SASSA number for SRD R350 and all other grants, including Disability, Old Age, Care Dependency, Child Grants, and more, follow this method. It works the same for all of them.
- Visit the SASSA services portal to access your SASSA account.
- Enter your 13-digit South African Identity Number in the “ID Number” box.
- Input your 6-digit Application ID (App ID) provided by SASSA for grant approval.
- Click “Submit” to verify your identity as the original applicant.
- Select “Change Phone Number.”
- Provide your new cell phone number to update your SASSA application contact details.
- You’ll receive an SMS containing an OTP on the provided cell phone number for verification.
- Enter the SASSA OTP code and click “Verify Pin.”
- You’ll receive another message to confirm your request to change your cell phone number.
- Click “Submit” to approve the number change.
- Wait for 14 days (two weeks) for SASSA to verify your new contact details and process payments accordingly.
Notice: Avoid frequent cell phone number changes. SASSA advises beneficiaries against multiple monthly changes, as this may affect monthly grant payments, causing delays in Sassa Reapplication approval and potential until verification is complete.

If your cell phone is stolen or you lose your SIM card, which is registered to your SASSA application, you need to follow these steps to change contact details with SASSA without OTP.
- SASSA officials warn that if you have lost your cell phone number report this incident to SASSA immediately.
- To report your stolen registered cell phone number to SASSA click on this link: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/auth
- Enter your ID Number.
- By submitting your ID number you confirm that your cell phone number used for SASSA SRD R350 grant application was changed without your permission.
- Confirm your choice with Yes or No.
Reminder for Beneficiaries
- Log in to your SASSA account and check your SASSA status. If it displays ‘record not found,’ directly contact the SASSA helpline at 0800 601 011 to block your payments.
- Proceed to the Change Phone Number process online to update your contact details.
- Wait for 14 days (2 weeks) from the date of the requested change in your SASSA phone number to have your phone number successfully updated for your grant payments.

unfortunately i have been trying to change my phone number for months now ,i have sent emails and even called sassa to ask for help because i recently found out that my R350 is going into another account that is not mine . i have also tried changing my details using the links given above but it says my identification number is not valid is there no other way we can be helped because i think that if there are so many people with the same problem then the people working at sassa might have more knowledge than we do and instead of helping us they watch us suffer while we continue to ask for help yet they might even be getting the money we keep asking help for.

Hi that link isn’t working I called sassa to change my number and email sassa was told it can take up to a year before my number can be changed cause they busy with backlog.this is really frustrating cause we apply cause we need the money now to buy food so after a year I’ll be dead of hunger.I don’t understand why the government don’t hire more staff to assist cause clearly this is a lot of work that technology can’t even assist with.I’m really dissapointed in sassa service. First you need to report your lost or stolen number then you can change your number if still you cannot change it Please visit SASSA office no other option.
