SASSA Gold Card Deadline Extended to 31 May 2025
SASSA and Postbank have officially extended the deadline to replace expired Gold Cards with Postbank Black Cards until 31 May 2025. This decision ensures that grant beneficiaries will continue receiving their April and May 2025 social grants without disruption.
SASSA Gold Card Deadline Extended to 31 May 2025
Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe confirmed during a media briefing that beneficiaries can still use their Gold Cards throughout April and May. During this period, they are encouraged to collect their new Postbank Black Cards or visit their nearest SASSA office to switch to another payment method, such as a personal bank account.
This update comes after confusion over the previous deadlines for replacing SASSA Gold cards with the new Postbank Black cards. The original deadline of 20 March 2025 and the April 2025 deadline have passed. Now, the SASSA Gold Card deadline extended to 31 May 2025.
Postbank and SASSA now strongly urge all grant recipients not to delay. Replacing your expired Gold card early helps reduce pressure on outreach teams and ensures uninterrupted access to grant funds. Once your grant is received, you can transfer money from Sassa card to Capitec or any other bank account easily.
Important Update for SASSA Card Holders
Beneficiaries are advised not to use South African Post Office branches (SAPO) to withdraw grants. Instead, visit the Postbank office and use selected retailers for payment methods like Checkers, Usave, Shoprite, Spar, Boxers, and Pick n Pay.
Our SASSA community feedback highlights that many people are unaware of these roving Postbank POS support visits due to poor communication. Government representatives in the Western Cape also voiced frustration over the lack of clear updates, urging Postbank to step up its efforts to inform the public effectively.
Reminder: Replace your Gold Card with a Postbank Black Card before June 2025 to avoid payment delays or declined grants. Don’t wait until the last day of May 2025, collect your new Black card now.
