The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the launch of new SASSA Black Cards, set to replace the current SASSA Gold cards starting 1 April 2025. Designed with advanced security features and enhanced functionality, these next-generation cards benefit all social grant beneficiaries. This upgrade addresses challenges faced by recipients with expired cards, offering more secure transactions.

New SASSA Black Cards Announced for 2025

Starting 1 April 2025, millions of eligible beneficiaries of social grants, including the SRD R370 grant, will transition to the new SASSA Black Cards. These cards are set to replace expired SASSA cards, marking a significant step forward in improving the social grant distribution system.

Postbank, in partnership with SASSA, will replace the existing SASSA Gold Cards with the new Black Cards after 31 March 2025. To benefit SASSA beneficiaries, the new Postbank Black Cards come with advanced technology, including fingerprint (biometric) and facial recognition authentication, to enhance the security and efficiency of grant payments.

Beneficiaries can collect their new Black Cards at nearby Post Offices, local SASSA offices, and retail store locations. Valid identification documents will be required during collection to ensure a secure process.

Transition Deadline for New Postbank Black Cards

Dr. Diako urged all beneficiaries to replace their Gold Cards with the new Black Cards by 31 March 2025 to avoid any service interruptions.
