SASSA Old Age Grant Payment Dates April 2025
After checking your old-age grant application status, it is important to know when SASSA payment dates are scheduled to start distributing your approved grant. You can find your Old Age Grant payment dates schedule for 2025 below.

SASSA Old Age Grant is paid on Wednesday 2 April 2025, along with any linked grants such as the War Veterans Grant and Grant in aid for additional benefits.
What if your application is not approved?
If your application is not approved, SASSA will provide written notification explaining the reason for the unsuccessful outcome. If you disagree with the decision, you have the option to appeal to the Minister of Social Development at the National Department of Social Development. Remember, SASSA appeal must be submitted within 90 days of being notified that your application was unsuccessful.
How much is the SASSA Old Age Grant?
If your application for the SASSA Old Age Grant is approved, you will begin receiving payments from the date your application was submitted. SASSA increased grant payments for 2025 to benefit elderly individuals rely on SASSA support.
Now SASSA pays R2,310 to Old Age Grant beneficiaries under 75 years and provides R2,330 per month to those older persons above the age of 75 years.
The updated grants included the Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, Grant In Aid, Old Age Grant, Care Dependency Grant, and War Veterans Grant.
What are the payment methods for the SASSA old age grant?
SASSA provides the grant through the following SASSA payment methods.
- Cash at designated retail stores and pay points on a scheduled payday.
- Electronic deposit into your bank or Postbank account (please note that the bank may charge for this service).
- Payment transactions into your SASSA card support ATM funds withdrawal and transferring money to your bank account.
- Institutions such as old age homes and health care centers.
Postbank has introduced new SASSA Black Cards to enhance security in grant payments. Beneficiaries are encouraged to switch from expired Gold Cards, which will soon become inactive.
Note: If you are unable to collect the money yourself, you can appoint a procurator at the SASSA office or grant someone power of attorney to collect the grant on your behalf.
When will SASSA older person grant be reviewed?
SASSA decided to review your grant annually, and priority evaluation is based on the income you declared during your application through the means test. You will be notified three months in advance of the review or the due date for submitting a life certificate (proof of being alive). If you receive your grant through a bank, institution, or procurator, you are required to complete a life certificate at the SASSA offices manually.
When will SASSA older person grant be lapsed and suspended?
Your old age grant may be suspended under the following circumstances.
- Changes in your circumstances.
- Review outcomes.
- Failure to cooperate during the review process.
- Fraudulent activity or misrepresentation.
- Approval mistakes.
When will the lapse and cessation of the SASSA grant happen
Your SASSA grant may lapse or cease if:
- You pass away.
- You are admitted to a state institution.
- You do not claim for three consecutive months.
- You are absent from the country.
Please note: If you are admitted to an institution with a state contract for your care, the social grant is reduced to 25% of the maximum grant amount. This reduction begins in the fourth month following your admission and will be reinstated immediately upon your discharge.

My old persons grant was approved on 10 July 2023. I received a letter from SASSA dated 17 July 2023 by D Khumalo that my grant is approved. I was supposed to get my first payment in August 2023, but have not received anything. I opted to have the money paid into my bank account. I am 78 years old and find it difficult to go to my local SASSA office.

Registered online profiles, been to Sassa offices, no one has answers regarding applications. Nothing online. No contact number you provide works. Give people some decent answers and numbers to call that someone ACTUALLY ANSWERS. This is ridiculous service.. pensioners need their money!

I applied for an old age grant on 12 June 2023 at the Midrand SASSA branch. On that day their computers were offline and they accepted and processed my application by hand. I went online to check my status but no status is available. On 12 October it will be 4 months. Please can you assist.

I went to draw out my SASSA old age grant on Tuesday 05 September 2023 and there was 2140 in the account, but due to the hiccup with the systems I could not draw the funds. I tried again today and it said that there are insufficient funds. When checking the balance statement, there was only R22.40 in the account. Please can you assist.
