Transfer Money from SASSA Card to Capitec

SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) recommends bank accounts to receive grant money directly, avoiding the need to go to the Post Office ATMs or retailer outlets. It doesn’t matter if you have a Capitec bank account or a Standard Bank account, you have the option to transfer your funds from your SASSA Black card to your bank account for any social grant or SRD R350.

The process to transfer money from SASSA Card to Capitec bank is simple, and it will take just 1 minute. You need to fill out the SASSA banking details form, which will change your payment method from SASSA card to your bank account for the SASSA R350 social relief grant or any other social grant.

  • To transfer your grant money from your SASSA card to your Capitec account, first ensure your SASSA card is active.
  • Your Capitec bank account details are correct and complete, including your account number, account type, and branch code.

How to Transfer Money from SASSA Card to Capitec

Changing your payment method from Gold Card (now Postbank Black Card) to a bank account for social grant payment is simple. It follows the same procedure for all SASSA grants, including Old Age, Care Dependency, Disability, Children’s Grants, and the SRD R370 grant, via these steps.

  1. Complete your Change Banking Details SASSA to Capitec form online.
  2. Provide your 13-digit South African Identity Number and your cell phone number.
  3. Enter the 6-digit OTP number sent to your phone and click ‘Verify Pin.’
  4. Ensure you enter the correct details for your Capitec Bank account, including.
    • Capitec Bank Account Number
    • Capitec Bank Branch Code
    • Capitec Bank Account Type
  5. Submit your form to complete your request to transfer money from the SASSA card to Capitec bank.

Now the process is complete, SASSA will pay your grant directly into your Capitec bank account instead of your SASSA card. The same applies if you use TymeBank, FNB, Standard Bank, or Nedbank. From your next payment date, the SASSA-approved grant will go straight into your Capitec bank account, making it easier and faster to collect your grant money each month.

Please note: New and updated banking details will only be used for future payments after verification. The verification process usually takes around 15 to 30 days to link your Capitec bank account with the SASSA payment system. You will receive a confirmation message once this process is completed.

Update for SASSA Beneficiaries Switching to Bank Payment

If you choose the bank account payment option, such as TymeBank, Standard Bank, FNB, Nedbank, or Capitec Bank, ensure that you are the legal account holder. SASSA cannot deposit your grant money into someone else’s bank account. However, you can transfer funds from your SASSA card to any bank account using your bank’s mobile app.

If you choose the money transfer option through one of the major South African banks, be aware that some banks charge for SASSA grant payments. Also, ensure that the mobile number used to receive SASSA OTPs is registered in your name. SASSA cannot send grant-related messages to a cellphone number registered to someone else.

Official Announcement for SASSA Black Card Holders

Postbank is moving all SASSA cardholders to the new Black Cards for 2025 for SRD and social grant payments. If your SASSA Gold Card has expired, you can still use it to withdraw your grant for now, but it will no longer be supported once the transition to the Black Card system is complete.
